History, Activities AND Evangelization WORK OF THE FRANCISCAN CAPUCHINS IN GHANA
Ghana, which was known as Gold Coast, a country in West Africa, was evangelized by SMA Father and Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) almost 135 years ago. Since then many Missionary Congregations played a key role in the work of evangelization. The Capuchins too now partake in this process of evangelization. In Ghana the Capuchin Presence has been from the year 2005. Three Capuchin friars (Bros. Irvin James, Joseph P.S and Varghese Alphonse) from St. Francis Province, Kerala, India, began its missionary work in Kongo, as Animators of the Spiritual Renewal Centre of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese in the Upper East Region of Ghana. From there another community was formed in the year 2008 to care for the pastoral needs of the people in and around Kpassa in the northern part of the diocese of Jasikan in the Oti Region. In March 2018, we formally inaugurated our third presence in the Diocese of Sunyani, in the Brong-Ahafo Region. Our fourth presence is on, 16th October 2020, St. John the Baptist Church at Prampram and was officially handed over to us in the presence of the Vicar General, Dean of Tema-Battor Deanery, the outgoing Priest, the Financial Administrator of the Diocese, and the Chancellor of the Archdiocese. For the Capuchins side, three of the Friars were present. On Sunday 18th October, 2020, we were introduced to the People of God at Prampram St. John the Baptist Church. Right now we have Two parishes with twenty outstations, two retreat centres and many Spiritual, social and psychological activities.
Africa Mission Tanzania I'm fr Chackochen working in Tanzania an East African country. I am doing the Pastoral ministries among the poor people here. Along with the Pastoral and Evangelization works I'm extending time in doing the compassionate ministries as well in a little way possible to uplift the poor in societies in different ways. I do help the poor students to study by providing study materials, Feeding the poor, providing house for the marginalized one's, helping the poor patients for treatment, etc...
Along with these works I think about in future with your help to provide Food for the poor patients in the hospital and conduct medical camp for the poor villagers in the village who are deprived of near medical facilities thereby continue to do the compassionate ministries of christ and give Jesus to others.
For these works Marian Sainyam World Mission was with me till now and I hope they will be with me in future as well with your generous support.
